Opening – the artist is present
Friday, November 11, 2022, 6 pm – 9 pm

We are showing our new gallery artist Jochen Mühlenbrink from November 11 to December 23, 2022. Jochen Mühlenbrink was born in Freiburg in 1980. In 2001 he began his studies at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf and graduated in 2007 as a master student of Markus Lüpertz. Today he lives and works in Düsseldorf and Oldenburg, Germany.

The focus of our exhibition is on mainly recent Window Paintings and Tape Paintings of different dates of origin as well as objects. Jochen Mühlenbrink's Window Paintings primarily depict houses and landscapes that appear to be behind a fogged-up window glass. It seems as if someone has painted patterns and lines on a window pane with their finger. In his works, adhesive strips appear again and again, painted as an optical illusion on the canvas and sometimes also over the underlying motif. Slits of sight can be found again and again in both the Window Paintings and the Tape Paintings. The open spaces between the tapes and the finger smears on the Window Paintings reveal a view on something that the artist himself questions. What is real, what is visible, what is depictable?
