Figure and landscape encounter each other in "2 Läufer am Meer" ( 2 Runners by the Sea ). Rainer Fetting captures the movement of the two runners with a few precisely placed brushstrokes. Quick drops of color turn into light reflections in the work and are reminiscent of the color splashes of Jackson Pollock's dripping technique. The influence of the New York School on Rainer Fetting is once again visible in this work. The reduced color palette is broken up by subtle color accents such as the blue swimming trunks or the red ears of a runner. With his expressive brushstroke, Rainer Fetting brings not only the dynamics and movement of the moment to the canvas but also the vastness of the surroundings. "2 Läufer am Meer" combines three important themes in the oeuvre of Rainer Fetting: the male figure, landscape and movement.

The movement of the runners contrasts with the stillness of the figures in "2 Sitzende am Strand" ( 2 sitting at the Beach ). Their bodies fill the lower half of the painting and mirror the posture of their counterparts, while in the background yellow areas of color represent the sunlight reflecting on the sea. The figures appear almost transparent as if they were merging with their surroundings.

With his sense of color, Rainer Fetting captures the light and color of the North Sea. "Friesenhaus-car" shows a typical Frisian house illuminated by a glowing moon. With a striking brushstroke emanating from the left headlight of the passing car, Rainer Fetting creates movement here and thus refers to the fleeting nature of the moment.

Rainer Fetting's painting is influenced by his encounter with the New York School. American expressionism influences can be found again and again in his works. This is also the case in " Heckrosen, Sylt" ( Hedge Roses, Sylt ), in which the leaves and blossoms of the hedge roses almost dissolve into abstract color fields.

Rainer Fetting is currently exhibited in a solo exhibition at the Dortmunder U until April 5, 2021.
