The title "Hundert" refers to Otto Dix’s work, which captured big-city life in Berlin during the Weimar Republic of the 1920s. Dix focused especially on his bustling city, caught between the golden twenties and the aftermath of World War I, in which poverty, excess and political transformation walked hand-in-hand. The air was humming with excited celebration, despite the fragile social and political situation; yet, social grievances were left ignored. These were the basic themes of Dix's work. A century later, Ruprecht von Kaufmann confronts similar themes in the contemporary context. His works are a testimony to our present-day society, which again is in a state of constant volatility and flux, characterized by contradiction and paradox.
