Bertram Hasenauer. Viewing Room

The portraits of Bertram Hasenauer (*1970) seem familiar and yet at the same time alienated. The fine facial features emerge from many thin layers of watery acrylic paint. The portraits are not images of living models but are subject to the imagination of the artist, who uses his archive of media images as a source of inspiration.

Subtly, the boundaries of symmetry, flawlessness, and beauty shift, and thus, as it were, the possibilities of facial perception elude the viewer. Bertram Hasenauer's figures seem to be just waiting to be decoded and thus become a mirror of the viewer, who is animated to self-reflection in the dialogue with the picture.
