I don’t attempt to make linear connections between paintings. These works start out autobiographical, but are then untethered from their original context. For me, the real story is in the gaps between the works and where they lead.

It is often the most uncomplicated scenes and everyday experiences that make the strongest motifs for Bron. The subjects are intended to be simple and accessible on the one hand, and open, poetic and ephemeral on the other.

The artist is particularly fascinated by the possibility of painting to contextualize itself with its surroundings. Thus, in his paintings, figures merge with landscapes or a snake wraps itself around a person's hand.

Stephen Bron was born in 1993 in Long Island, New York, US. In 2015 he completed his BFA in Painting at Cooper Union, NY, US, in 2017 he completed his MFA in Painting at New York University, NY. In 2014 he attended the Yale School of Art Norfolk Summer School, CT, US. Stephen Bron lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, US.
